The Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo, has expressed his intention to contest the 2019 presidential election.
Dankwambo stated this via his verifiable Twitter handle on Saturday.
The governor said his decision to challenge other notable politicians who have indicated interest in the highest office in the country followed widespread consultations with party members and Nigerians.
He said, “After wide consultations with party members and Nigerians of diverse backgrounds, I, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo will be running for office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of our great party, the People’s Democratic Party.”
The governor will contest the PDP ticket with a former national chairman of the party Ahmed Makarfi; and a former vice-president Atiku Abubakar.
A former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, and the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki are also interested in contesting the presidency on the ticket of the PDP
